Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all of you reading! I hope you come to the new year with great lessons from the year before and a renewed sense of purpose and a hope for change and betterment.

I understand that not every one makes a fuss about the new year, seeing it as only another date on the calendar, but while I don’t believe you have to wait for the new year to change, there’s something so refreshing about the idea of a brand new year.

This New Years was different for me. I haven’t even started on my resolutions yet. Whereas in the years before I would get all excited and get my resolutions ready and start them exactly at the strike of midnight, this year I took things slow.

One thing I have realized over the last year is that without mental health, physical health means very little. I get busy over the weekdays with lots of other engagements and I really want to use my weekends to relax and rejuvenate, and that’s what I’ve done this past weekend.

Whereas many people may see the New Year as the only time to have a fresh, I believe you can start fresh at any time. The next hour, the next day and my favorite: the next Monday. This year, I’m combining the New Year with the new week and starting my resolutions this Monday, January 4th. I’ve had three days to relax and how is the time for some work.

A Handful of Resolutions

  • learn to live with less
  • 3 blog posts a week
  • start a youtube channel (again hehe)
  • drink a cup of green tea every day
  • stop drinking soda
  • do some workout or yoga every day
  • read at least 50 pages of something every day
  • read ten more books than you did last year (which was 24!!)
  • journal every night
  • keep a food log (but only for fun!)
  • moisturize properly day and night
  • eat more of a plant-based diet.
  • no more than 2-3 episodes of anything in a row
  • don’t spend time in bed between 8 am and 8 pm
  • take time for yourself every day
  • be happy. If it doesn’t make you happy, don’t do it.
  • be more of a morning person.
  • understand who you are spiritually.

 

Of course I have other things I would like to do and change in the new year, but these are the ones I have jotted down for now. I love watching TED talks for spirituality, I have been meaning to give up soda for over a year now and I know to have skin as good as my mom does at her age, I need to moisturize intensely. Some of the more important resolutions are the blog posts and youtube channel, which I have neglected since being busy setting up the new site. But no more! I promise.

 

Tools To Help

I usually have trouble following through on most resolutions, usually only going through with 3-4 in a list of ten. A great motivational item that could aide in keeping your resolutions and helping you lead a more organized 2016 would be getting a planner. You can buy planners at many places (some of my favorites are listed below) or can make one yourself, either making your own sheets or purchasing them, usually for around $5 on Etsy.

Another helpful trick would be to print out sheets and add them to a planner or a journal or keep on your desk. A new app I’m loving is called Pump Up. One of my resolutions for this year was to keep a food log (for the fun of it) and have been adding images of what I eat each day on there.

If you are also starting a fitness or food journey this year, I highly recommend downloading this app. You can add personal progress pics, food images and track your workouts all in one place that has a supportive community of others all doing the same. I’ve only had this app for a couple of days and have not seen any negativity (perhaps the only social app I’ve ever seen this on) and have been looking forward to updating my feed.

Make A Change

Don’t forget guys, you have as many hours in a day as Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and every one else on this earth. If you’re excuse is that you don’t have enough time to get stuff done, you’re fooling yourself. If you enter 2016 wanting to change your life in a positive way, you still have plenty of time. Start tomorrow and get shit done.
