You’d think I’d lose a few pounds with all the catching up I’ve been doing.

2016 was a revolutionary year for beauty – so many products launched, so many brands launched and so much happened. Like Kylie Jenner said, it was the year of realizing things.

What I realized in 2016 was that I love beauty products. Working in that environment really reignited that spark in me and made me remember that this was what I wanted to do with my life. It’s more than just a hobby, it’s a passion, and here are the things I was really passionate about in 2016.

Mon Paris by YSL

Available at: Macy’s, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, etc.

This fragrance was an absolute breakthrough for me this year. It launched late in 2016 and I was totally head over heels for it. Of course, like I always say, no fragrance ever really lasts on me, however Mon Paris does a really nice job and it’s a seductive floral with a deep dry down. Fans of Flowerbomb will absolutely love this and those like me who find it kinda meh may have found their perfect flower match.

Straight from Fragrantica: “the composition has a fruity start, intoxicating floral heart and a dark chypre base. It opens with a juicy and sweet blend of Calabria bergamot, strawberry, raspberry and pear. The heart is dominated by datura flower accompanied by a bouquet of peony, Chinese and Sambac jasmine and orange blossom. Airy crystal white musk (three types of it), ambroxan and an intense patchouli duo (from Indonesian and Guatemala) provide the provocative classic chypre signature base.”

Smashbox Legendary Lipgloss in Rosette – $21

I. cant. even. I cant even. This is, in my opinion, the most stunning cool nude lipgloss on the market. It stays nice and glossy throughout the day, with only minimal reapplying needed (i.e. after meals, coffee, etc) and doesn’t make your lips overly tacky. I even find that this lipgloss doesn’t cause my hair to stick to it in the wind, which is a total added bonus. I will say on it’s own it doesn’t do much but I don’t at all mind layering it over a nude lipstick, after all I just get more color pay off and I can layer this over any color to give it that cool nude hue.

BTW, if you guys go out to get this shade, the packaging is extremely misleading. The shade on the box looks like a rosy pink, as the name would suggest, but the actual gloss is a soft cool toned nude.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Palettes – $42-45

The first time I swatched Anastasia eyeshadows was after working at Macy’s and I immediately fell in love with them. I lean toward ABH shadows whenever I have a client in my seat as the shadows are immensely pigmented and blend easily and seamlessly. Whereas I love their individual shadows (post coming soon of my top 8) the palettes are the real stars of the show. I cannot pick a favorite between Modern Renaissance and the Master Palette by Mario – it’s like asking a mother to choose a favorite child. These palettes stand out as my go-to eyeshadows throughout 2016 from the minute I got my hands on them.

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes – $32

This has been my favorite mascara since the summer of 2016. When I’m not wearing my falsies, this is the mascara I reach for. This mascara gives me everything I want in a mascara: thickness, length and curl. The Legendary Lashes mascara has had rave reviews since it’s launch and so when I finally bought it in June, I had high hopes for it, which it has certainly lived up to.

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops – $42

Probably my favorite new find of 2016 and my new favorite highlighters, the Cover FX Custom Enhancer drops took the VIB Rouge sale by storm this year. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one of them a few months before when they first launched and I was totally in love from first swipe. I knew immediately that I had to get more. Unfortunately, they sold out and remained out of stock for months until right before VIB sale they popped back in and finally I was able to get them. I still have my original bottle as one drop is enough to give off a blinding highlight so this product will last ages. I do have a backup though in my favorite shade, Sunlight but have also purchased Moonlight. Recently, I saw that Cover FX is launching three new shades, and I will definitely be purchasing them during the next sale.

NARS Blush in Madly – $30

I was on the quest for a new neutral blush that I could wear with any look – from dramatic and smokey to barely there and bronzey. I knew I loved the NARS formula so of course this was the first place I turned. Through watching many Ride or Die tags on youtube I found that many of my favorite youtubers loved Madly by NARS. With a couple of clicks on Sephora’s website, I saw that this muted middle of the road nude shade was what I needed, so I went on over to my nearest Sephora and have never looked back.
