NYX Review and Swatches: Simply Vamp collection

I know I have plenty of lip products and I did not NEED these but I had Ulta points saved up and who could pass up some free new goodies? Besides, it’s so close to Halloween and I just love a dark vampy lip for the A/W season and these shades were right up my alley. I also have one product that is NYX that isn’t necessarily from the VAMPY collection but is vampy enough for me to mention.

Below are the two swatches of the Vampy lip balms and the Transylvania lip gloss.

Sorry about how badly the first swatch sucks – the lipstick bullet was broken and made working with the product difficult.

“Enamored” is a beautiful metallic mocha shade with a fabulous lustre finish. It’s perfect for any outfit that needs a sophisticated, mature pop of something sultry.

Aphrodisiac” is an accurately called lip cream that has a beautiful matte finish. It gives the lips a seductive appeal and is the perfect plum red shade for the holidays and beyond. I cannot think of a skin tone on which this color wouldn’t look damn sexy.

What it claims:

Vamp up your look instantly with NYX Cosmetics smooth and smoldering Simply Vamp Lip Cream. Wear any of these six bewitching shades to brew up a little beauty magic. Apply to clean, moisturized lips. Wear over liner or primer for lasting wear.(Ulta.com)

What it does:

Delivering a seductive shade of plums and rich metallic mochas, these lip creams are a must have for fall! The fact that they are called Simply Vampy makes them even more appropriate for the season. These will run you a little more than 6 bucks, and overall are a great product. Below are a list of pro’s and con’s and a final rating of how I feel about the product.

These lip creams certainly do apply smoothly, but have the tendency to settle into the lines of your lips.

The rather large shape of the tip makes them a bit harder to apply for people who have thinner lips.

The packing or product (not sure which) is weak. I purchased one before but found out that the lipstick had fallen out of the tube, so I returned it for another one of the same color. Fast forward to one day in my purse and this one has broken again – these are not super reliable as on-the-go products.

The color range is gorgeous – these are all 6 shades

The price is right – 6 dollars for a lip cream is fine with me any day. Especially since I consider “Enamored” to be a dupe for the Rihanna Viva Glam 2 lipstick, which hits around 20 bucks and is limited edition (though I don’t know if these are).

Some would describe the Rihanna Viva Glam more mauve, but with a light application of NYX Enamored, there is no telling any difference at all.

Overall rating: 6/10

These products are great, don’t get me wrong. I definitely would purchase more, but I’m giving it a low score because overall the product packaging is lackluster and boring. A Simply Vamp collection should have a little something vampy to the packaging right? Other than that, I definitely recommend these to try – just be sure to exfoliate and moisturize beforehand to avoid having the lipstick settle in any unflattering ways.

Transylvania Lip gloss

NYX always delivers when it comes to lip gloss – some of my absolute favorites are from them! While some of the lipsticks may be drying, these lip glosses are like butter! (Thus, they have an appropriately named line of butter glosses) This one is no different, it smoothes on perfectly with a few clumps here and there where the lipstick has settled. It moisturizes my lips and has a great lasting power. Also, the matte finish is such a bonus, it’s hard to find a matte lip gloss that wont turn your lips into the Sahara desert. I highly recommend any NYX lip gloss but this one is a perfect match over the Aphrodisiac lip cream or any merlot/plum colored lipstick. If this lipstick’s namesake has anything to do with the beauty of those living in Transylvania, I shudder to think just how vampy and gorgeous those women may be!
